How do you know when the painting is finished?

How do you know when the painting is finished? That's a good question, and to be honest, I don't quite know the answer.

By working and making mistakes, I learn to recognize the moment when nothing else can be added. Most of the time I just know it's finished.

I also experienced that after many weeks of work, I decided that it needs to be painted over. But it also happens that I go back to an already finished project and that's when I find something special.
